Where do I start? The Niagara Falls are a site to see. First of all if I could change one thing about my trip, I would have gone during the Spring or Summer months. I had no idea that the area surrounding it shut down early and was basically a ghost town during the winter months. You also can’t engage in the boat tours and all of the opportunities to go behind the scenes so my little tip for vacationers is to definitely plan to go in the warmer months. Being a full-time traveler I have no regrets. I was able to snag an upgraded suite right on Falls Avenue in Ontario with a view of the falls from my window.
I went on this trip with a friend. We drove in from Michigan, went through Canada and explored Buffalo, NY. With only a few hours to spare there we went to a trendy little part of town, walked around a while and grabbed lunch. As the night began to fall we headed back over to Canada.
We checked into our room and headed out to see the Falls. We were shocked to discover that we were the only ones out there and while the new 4 million dollar light upgrade was nice we were not impressed. We looked around perplexed and headed back to the hotel to make sure that what we were witnessing was THE FAMOUS Niagara Falls. The hotel staff assured us that that was it but after speaking to several people we concluded that maybe we needed to look from another angle or walk a little further.
Due to the freezing weather and our growling stomachs, we opted to grab dinner and head to bed.
I remember my friend calling a family member telling her how the falls just didn’t live up to her expectations. We woke up the next morning less than enthused, but we pulled ourselves together and proceeded to give the falls a try in the daylight.
We walked outside and took another look. It was better, we took photos and we continued to walk. And as we continued to walk we FINALLY reached the promise land. Whew! Right in time as I thought that I’d be telling a very different story in this blog. Before we knew it we’d found the crowd of people that we’d been looking for. They were all down near the best part of the falls.
THESE were the falls that were in all of the magazines. This was the rainbow that created smile after smile. I instantly thought to myself that the scenario was so much like life. Many times we grow frustrated with what is before us. Things just don’t seem to be what we expect or desire but if we just keep going before we know it we stumble upon something that our minds can’t even imagine.
After being blown away by the beauty of the falls I literally said out loud, “All I need now is a rainbow” and within less than a minute one appeared.
There are no words, pictures or videos that can describe the beauty of the Niagara Falls but I did my best to capture a few images for you.
